Easter arrived early in all of its glory this year, with spring right around the corner. The Main Street Book Store held its own during the snowy, icy, cold winter. It is now ready for spring and summer with exciting new books for our members and visitors. We welcome you to browse the book store any time.
Marilyn Newton, author of “Alkali Angels”, gave a wonderful review of her book in March covering a county by county survey of the Nevada cemeteries with historical information. The book is photographed in color and beautifully done.
We are expanding our book coverage to include not only the history of Nevada but the surrounding areas, such as Bodie, Virginia City, Death Valley and Yosemite. “The Story of Bodie” by Ella Cain; “Virginia City, Silver Region of the Comstock Lode” by Douglas McDonald; and Stan Paher’s “Death Valley Scotty’s Castle” and “Death Valley Ghost Towns” capture the colorful era and hard times of days gone by. Last but not least, is Guy Clifton’s new book, “Dempsey in Nevada.” This book contains everything you wanted to know about boxing great, Jack Dempsey.
The book inventory was completed in February. I wish to thank Kaye Hughes, Sally Jasperson and Ellen Martin for their counting abilities and Katherine Balvin for her computer expertise. Also, Ellen Martin gave her volunteer time to reorganizing the book store storeroom. What a special treat for all of us. Thank you so much.
Finally, we have mustang tee shirts for summer wearing and for your listening pleasure, a great selection of cds by the Comstock Cowboys.
Remember, there’s no sales tax on purchases from the historical society stores and members receive a 10% discount on all sales.
