The Exhibit Committee has been busy moving the exhibits out of the way in the Main Gallery at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center (CVM&CC) for the Fund Raising Committee. First were the Christmas Tea and the Christmas tree exhibits. After the trees were taken out, there was more moving of things around for tables and chairs and the stage set-up for “Whistlestop III.”
A new shop smith and radial saw were donated to the historical society by Gary Williams and a lesson was given to committee members on how to use them. The machines were put to use putting together the vent from the old Pioneer Motor building. The building was demolished in 2003 and the vent donated by Marlena Hellwinkel. It is now on display in front of the CVM&CC.
The First Inhabitants and The Trappers and Trailblazers cases are finished. They will be moved to the main gallery. We are still waiting for a grant to pay for a mural showing the Sierra Mountains, emigration trails, Pony Express routes, settlements along the Foothill Road and tying these in with ranches. Muralist Beverly Caputo will paint it in the Main Gallery.
There will be a new exhibit on gambling in the Changing Exhibit Room and when the weather warms up, we plan to start on the new barn yard between the Old Gym and CVM&CC.
